Living Sober: A Dual Diagnosis Treatment Can Put Things In Perspective
Most people who go through a rehab facilities program goal is living sober. Their family and friends are rooting for them to come out the other side of a treatment center a changed person. Sometimes that happens and sometimes it takes a few stabs before the addict can finally say they are in recovery and remain there.
A good rehab program doesn’t just focus on the here and the now they focus on the life long journey that is sobriety. They make sure that the addict learns to be able to spot the signs of relapse, this is referred to as relapse prevention. When a rehab is dealing to young adults especially it’s important not to just give the teenagers they are seeing these tools but also the parents. That way both people are working together to help their child stay sober.
Sometimes a child or young adult is suffering from mental illness if they go to a rehab that doesn’t have the tools to spot mental illness their chances of relapse can be greater because they are using drugs or alcohol to self-mediate a larger issue like panic disorders, anxiety, depression or bipolar disorder. A dual diagnosis treatment center can spot mental illness and treat your child this way your child is no longer using drugs or alcohol to self-medicate and as a result they are able to remain sober post rehab.
As a parent I’s really hard to watch your child go through an addiction problem. It’s normal to blame yourself even though it’s not your fault. A good parent spots the addiction problem or listens to people who have more experience with addiction and spotting the signs and listens and does something about it. Being there for your child is the best thing that a parent can do.
