Getting the support you need among living sober is a big part of an addict’s recovery. Once and addict has gone through rehab and is now ready to embark on a sober lifestyle they need the constant support of family and friends. That means some hand holding. It does not mean constant hand holding. An addict is still ultimately responsible for their sobriety. However, there are ways for friends and family to make it easier on them.

Drug Rehab: Checking In A Second Time

Checking into a drug rehab after having already been in once before can be an unsettling and embarrassing experience for an addict. They feel like they’ve failed themselves, the rehab and their friends and family. Chances are they have hurt their friends and family by abusing again but that shouldn’t stop them from picking themselves back up and going back to rehab. Sometimes addicts slip up and do not need to go back, other times they do. Usually, they and their sponsors know best if they just need to hit up a few meetings or if they need to check back in.

Rehab Facilities: Not As Bad As You Think

Rehab facilities are not cold, sterile, lifeless institutions that some people picture them to be. A lot of addicts feel at home at rehab and feel like they are among people who finally understand them and what they are going through. Being an alcohol or a drug user can cause a lot of paranoia and trust issues. Most addicts that check into rehab are in a very vulnerable time in their lives which is why it’s imperative that they are surrounded by a ton of love and support from the people who run and are in the rehab.
