Dual Diagnosis Treatment: Achieving Living Sober

Dual Diagnosis Treatment: Hearing Mental Illness For The First Time

Hearing mental illness for the first time from a dual diagnosis treatment staff may have two responses from a parent. You may feel relieved that you finally have an answer for what’s going on with your child. It may be a case where you finally told what you’ve suspected all along. Other times it’s a complete shock and there may be a bit of denial and anger on your part. You may think that the rehab is crazy and believe firmly that they are wrong. The best thing to do when you are given any kind of diagnosis is to not accept it. Get a second opinion first and then if that comes out differently then get a third and see what that says.

Living Sober: Why Some Rehabs Fail

Rehabs definitely fail. That doesn’t mean the rehab is bad or that the people working there know what they are doing. It just means that not all rehabs are the same. Some focus on one thing while others focus on many things when it comes to living sober and sobriety. So if you child comes out of rehab and starts to abuse again instead of putting them in another rehab do some research on rehabs and what they focus on, what their story is before putting your child back in the system.

Drug Abuse Rehab: As A Parent Taking A Step Back Is Hard

As a parent it can be incredibly hard to drop your child off to a drug abuse rehab and let someone else take care of your child and their drug problem. Here’s the problem a lot of times and why parents struggle so much with letting complete strangers parent their child in a way, parents do not realize that alcoholism and drug addiction is a disease. If there child was diagnosed with cancer they wouldn’t even be thinking twice about letting a doctor and a hospital or nurses and specialists treat their child. Rehab is just like a hospital in that your child is being treated for a disease by people who are qualified to treat your child.
