Why Wilderness Treatment Programs Work
If it’s time to send your child to adolescent rehab that you may have had a friend recommend you look into a wilderness treatment programs package. No one likes the thought of having to send their child to an adolescent drug treatment program. The idea of sending your child to a rehab that’s close by for thirty days can bring a parent to tears left alone putting them on a plane and sending them out of state. The great thing about a wilderness program is that your child won’t feel like they are being punished for their alcohol or drug problem but that you care enough about them to send them away to get help.
That’s not to say it won’t be challenging and your child won’t go out the door kicking and screaming and hating you for it. It just means that your child might be in really bad place and drinking or doing drugs is their way of coping with whatever is going on inside. Your child may be angry. They may not be liked at school. They may be being bullied and as a result have become incredibly depressed and this is how they deal with it. They may feel this immense pressure to be the perfect student, the perfect athlete and the perfect kid. They may be hurting because the family is falling apart and the pain is too great to bear. They may also have broken up with someone and that loss has taken its toll on them. Whatever the reason may be the good news is that at a wilderness program they learn to love themselves again and they learn to take that anger and put it into something productive like writing, or art or music. They learn to take pride in outdoor activities.
