Hiking

Teen alcoholism after care programs

Young men in early recovery often struggle with the concept of a higher power, something greater than themselves. Nature and direct experience within nature is a practical way of moving into this concept for many. Hiking in the forest surrounding our property is an activity that Shadow Mountain Academy uses to connect our young men with a sense of the “big picture” and where they fit in. While in nature, we adjust to the environment and its power. This can be incredibly humbling and empowering at the same time. The experiences can lead our young men to a better understanding the concept of a conscious contact with a higher power or a power greater than themselves.
