Skiing/Snowboarding

Teen alcoholism after care programs

Skiing and snowboarding while fun activities, offer some valuable skills for sober success. Young men in early recovery can suffer from poor impulse control and reluctance to ask for help. Improve on the slopes requires that one slow down enough to learn proper technique. This takes patience and impulse control. Skiing requires focus and a healthy amount of caution. For beginners it requires reaching out for guidance, instruction and learning one's limitations. The connection to recovery is achieved by helping our young men to identify when they are in trouble and ask for help. Shadow Mountain Academy staff members are there to identify parallels to recovery.
